With his brand new track ‘Ashanti Vibes’ making waves through UK radio, premiering on GRM Daily and racking up numbers on Youtube it was only right I attended Yung Saber’s Press Day with Music in Motion PR.

We had a great spot at Drake and Morgan in Kings Cross and I found Yung Saber chilling in one of the booths downstairs.

Originally from Peckham, and well known in Forest Hill, Yung Saber told me that his musical influences stemmed from homegrown UK artist’s such as Giggs and SN1.

I asked him about his musical style/sound and he told me;

“I don’t really have a sound, I just make music. Some people think I just make drill but I don’t really have a sound. I make different types of music, and whatever you know Yung Saber as that’s me. It could be any style of music, Drill, trap, RnB or dancehall…”

Sam: So you’ve just released a new track. can you tell me a bit more about that?

YS: Yeah, I’ve got a track it’s called ‘Ashanti Vibes’ and it’s premiering on GRM Daily. It’s a track that anyone can listen too with an RnB vibe, it is intentionally for the ladies but anyone can rock with it.

Sam: It sounds like you’re really invested in music, how long have you been making music yourself?

YS: Around 10 plus years!

Sam: Wow, Ok. So what has been your biggest challenge in regards to music so far?

YS: My biggest challenge has been trying not to let my personal drama’s in life affect my music.

Sam: So what else have you been working on and what can we expect from you in 2020?

YS: I’ve got a lot of music coming out, got a bag of singles lined up for release this year. I don’t wanna talk too much about it, I’m still making my mind up on what I’m dropping next. I’ve got a mixtape out right now called ‘Yung Saber & Friends’ and that’s been doing bits for a little while now.

Sam: If you were to collaborate with someone who would it be? 1 artist from the UK and 1 artist from USA?

YS: The UK one is a bit obvious and might sound a bit bias coz I’m from Peckham, it has to be Giggs init. American artist, it’s a bit hard, but probably Jay-Z or Rihanna.

Sam: What music did you listen to when you were growing up?

YS: I grew up listening to Reggae, Roots and UK Garage, Bashment… All of it.

Sam: What’s your favourite Garage song?

YS: The So Solid era was a certified era! But my favourite Garage song is Probably Monster Boy – Im Sorry

(Sammi proceeds to sing terribly)

Alongside music and the release of ‘Ashanti Vibes’ which was produced by Nizzy Trap, Yung Saber is an actor, you might recognise him from recently starring in Rapman’s Blue Story and previously in Noel Clarke’s Brotherhood.
