Having dropped his collaboration ‘No Banter’ with good friend Wretch 32 last year, the levels for ‘Top Tier’ have been set high from its inception.
His career has spanned two decades and, with a slew of mixtapes behind him, the cult rapper has finally released his debut studio album!
Announcing the long awaited release day and track listing for the album via his Instagram at the break of 2020, it became immediately apparent that we’re about to soak in a serious body of work which features the ‘Top Tier’ of UK acts in British Black Music, including Ghetts, Devlin, Blade Brown, Louis Rei (WSTRN) and Giggs.
Hitting play on his debut album, UK rapper and one of the British Black Music Scene’s elite artists Mercston, releases Top Tier’, accompanied by the visuals from the title track featuring Devlin and Ghetts.

‘Top Tier’, 14 tracks which skip from hardcore grime to more radio friendly cuts with hints of Afro-swing. Despite the refusal to stay in any one lane, the quality never dips drastically, but a few songs in it’s abundantly clear what Mercston’s really good at – grime.

The title track, which features Devlin and Ghetts, is a masterclass in fast-paced, unrelenting energy and a real throwback to the first golden era of the genre. ‘T’s And C’s’ brings a similar level of quality and the Mike Skinner-referencing ‘Merc Skinner’ is a perfect mix of comedy, storytelling and talent.
