ATO leads a path of introspection with new single “space to”

Leeds based rapper ATO is providing depth and thought-provoking performances in a rapidly rising UK Hip-Hop scene. Impressing with the first single from his forthcoming EP, he teases its eventual release with the latest drop “space to”.

With frequent collaborator EDEN once again at the helm, “space to” resides in a similar vein to previous release “24” with its lo-fi production. Warped adlibs decorate the beat, providing melody, adding texture and elevating a purposefully minimal Hip-Hop inspired track.

Energetic from the onset, it subtly builds tension and eventually morphs into something a lot darker as ATO leads into a path of introspection. His personal narrative envelops the track, addressing the inner conflict between looking forward and the ‘traps of the past’ – a theme that will be significant in the EP to come.

Keeping it within the ‘family’ again, the brand-new visuals for “space to” come courtesy of Joey Brodnax and centre around a scenic excursion through the city with ATO in the passenger seat. Keeping it all freeform, low budget and DIY as he does best, it’s the stamp of his individuality as he delivers yet another eclectic visual.

Having spent much of his formative years between Seoul, Ithaca – New York, Copenhagen and Cape Town, his exposure to different cultures reflect the varying nature of his musical influences, looking up to artists like Eminem, Kano, Ghostpoet and Amy Winehouse.

Amongst a crop of burgeoning UK talent like Jesse James Solomon, M Huncho, Nafe Smallz, Octavian and A2, ATO’s unique style of poeticism, bars and vocals reaffirms him as a name worth paying attention to – support from COMPLEX, TRENCH and LOST CULTURE attests to this. With his forthcoming project ‘EP3’ right around the corner and a guest feature from US rapper Vic Mensa to look forward to, “space to” is a yet another reminder not to sleep on this creative force that is ATO.
